Drag the box or its corners. “Fit to subject” adds even margins, handy for product photos. After cropping, “Redo removal” re-checks just that area for finer edges.
Makes your image square without cutting anything off. The extra space uses your background color, or stays transparent. Handy for profile pictures, marketplaces and social posts.
Rounded corners are transparent in the PNG and white in a JPG. For a round profile picture, make the image square first, then choose “Circle”.

How to make a picture square
Add your photo. Upload, drag or paste it. It opens as a square right away, with the whole picture visible.
Choose the border. White is the default. Pick any color in the Background tab, enter a hex code, or choose transparent for a PNG with see-through borders.
Adjust and download. Use the Margin slider for more space around the picture, or “Around subject” to square it around the main subject instead. Then download a PNG or JPG.
Why make images square?
Social media: post a full landscape or portrait photo in a square feed without anything being cut off.
Profile pictures: most sites show avatars as squares or circles. Square it here, then turn it into a circle.
Online shops and marketplaces: consistent square product photos with even white space look tidy in a grid.
Thumbnails and icons: app stores, playlists and catalogs often expect square artwork.
Square with or without the background
By default your photo stays exactly as it is, with borders added around it. If you’d rather put the subject on a clean background, press “Remove background”: the AI cuts out the person or product, and the square fills with your chosen color. That’s a quick way to make uniform product photos on white.
Frequently asked questions
Does it crop my photo?
No. “Whole image” keeps every pixel and adds borders on the shorter sides. If you do want to crop, use the Crop tab and pick 1:1.
Can the borders be transparent?
Yes. Choose the checkered swatch in the Background tab and download a PNG. A JPG can’t be transparent, so its borders become white.
What size is the square image?
The square is as wide as your photo’s longer side (plus any margin), up to 16 megapixels. Use the Resize tab for a specific size, such as 1080 × 1080 pixels.
Is it free? Is my photo uploaded?
It’s free with no account or watermark. Everything happens in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.
