About EasyCutout

EasyCutout is a free, easy background remover. It removes the background from a photo automatically, lets you pick a new background color, crop and resize, and gives you a full-resolution PNG or JPG. No account, no watermark, no credits.

Why it runs in your browser

Most background removers send your photo to a remote server. That costs money to run, which is why they usually limit free use, and it means a stranger’s computer sees your photo. EasyCutout runs the AI model directly on your device, so it can stay free and your images stay private.

The technology

The background is detected by IS-Net, a segmentation model from the research paper “Highly Accurate Dichotomous Image Segmentation” (Qin et al., ECCV 2022), released under the Apache-2.0 license. We run it with ONNX Runtime Web (MIT license), using your graphics chip through WebGPU where available and your processor otherwise. The website is hosted on Cloudflare.

Limitations

The model is good at people, animals, products and everyday objects, but no automatic tool is perfect. Very fine hair, transparent objects like glass, low-contrast scenes and busy group photos can produce rough edges. Older phones may be slow or run out of memory with large images.
